Music library presents repertoire catalogue at IAML Conference

At the IAML Conference in Naples two staff members of the Netherlands Radio Music Library were present, Martie Severt in his capacity of President of IAML and yours truly. On Thursday, July 24th, I presented the music library’s repertoire catalogue during the so-called poster sessions. This new feature at IAML Conferences “place[s] an expert about a given topic directly in front of conference attendees, many of whom will find great value in the ability to speak with the presenter“ (quotation from IAML’s website). For this event I had four posters designed which I attached to one of four 4 x 6 feet poster boards that were placed in the hall of the conference center (at Stazione Marittima). From this stand I was able to inform many colleagues about the special repertoire part of our English sheet music catalogue. It consists of three search pages that are designed especially to help one find classical repertoire with instrumentation as a starting point. The menu option Classical Repertoire will lead one to these pages - for Chamber music, for Orchestral music and for Vocal music.
By means of this section music librarians, musicians and concert programmers can find sheet music titles for the instrumentation of their choice.

Some random examples that give you an impression of the possibilities of the repertoire section:

  • piano sonatas composed between 1970 and today
  • string quartets by Estonian composers
  • sextets for strings and percussion
  • compositions for bass clarinet and orchestra by Dutch composers
  • songs for soprano and harp
  • madrigals for two female voices and basso continuo
  • works for unaccompanied female choir on Russian texts

If you are as surprised and curious as the colleagues that visited my stand please visit the online catalogue via our website and discover the astonishing riches of our music library’s collection. It’s free for all!

Really interesting. I had no opportunity going to Naples and i'm sad. I intended to talk about my proposals on music cataloguing. Currently, I'm working in two different areas: composers' personal archives and music uniform titles. I think we could change some experiences, what you think?
